John Abraham will be a Rockstar
Imtiaz Ali has chosen John Abraham over Bobby Deol. He has
put his film, Geet, with Bobby Deol, on hold, in order to
launch Rockstar with John first.
John Abraham will, of course, play the rock star. The film,
to be directed by Imtiaz Ali will go on the floors in
October and will be the first where John will appear in a
rock star’s avatar.
Director Imtiaz Ali says, “Yes, John plays a
singer-cum-guitar player in the film. Essentially, it’s a
love story with some fantastic music by A R Rahman. It’s a
commercial film.”
Will the film be a musical? “Well, we are definitely working
on something special. Every film has music but we are trying
out something different. In that sense, it can surely be
perceived as a musical. A R Rahman is doing a brilliant job
and we are very excited about the music of the film. But at
the end of the day it is about the journey of a young
couple,” he says.
What about his film with Bobby Deol, Geet? “I want to do
this film at the moment. Things were not working out with
Geet, and there were too many date problems. I wanted to go
on the floors with a film in October. With Rockstar, things
fell into place quickly, so I guess Rockstar was destined to
happen before Geet,” he says.
Meanwhile, Ram Mirchandani, vice-president UTV says,
“Rockstar will be our Rang de Basanti for 2007 in terms of
music.” The actress to be cast opposite John has not been
finalised yet.
