Your monthly feature on Indian Haute Couture

Article by Sharnay

Firstly a hearty congratulations to desi.com.au for taking the initiative to put together this on line magazine, well done!. I am sure you are all aware just how much energy, enthusiasm and focus it takes to bring this sort of initiative to life.

For those of you who I may not have rubbed shoulders with already, I am a Sydney based fashion fanatic and I work collaboratively with an India based designer Mrs. Sonia Kumar for my collections in Australia. What this means is that every month I will be presenting to you a snapshot of what's hot and what's not! -globally.

The season of spring conjures up images of vivacity, frivolity, fun and importantly vibrant colours. Combine these images with, delicate georgettes, chiffons, cool cottons, crushed and printed fabrics, layer these combinations with exquisite embroideries and you have the baseline of what is hot in fashion this spring.

For those of us living in Australia we're fortunate that Indian clothing is having a huge impact on the mainstream identities of western style. If you need validation, look no further than all the kaftans and kurta tops selling in various retail outlets. Kaftans and kurtas are huge in both the boulevards of Mumbai and in the five star circles in Delhi. Both garments are extremely versatile, and are currently being worn with with jeans, skirts, loose flowing pants or for the more flamboyant fashionistas, wear them on their own!

Churidhars remain a hot favourite and can be worn with a kaftan or shifts that have low waisted belts, this latter look has been inspired by the global throwback to a look that is very 1980's.

Sarees continue to be popular amongst all Fashion conscious ladies. This season's sarees exhibit delicate embroidery and are embellished using a variety of beads, sequins, crystals, rich zardozi, benarasi borders and jaal.

A question that I get asked commonly is 'what colours' are 'in' this season. Bright colours are the dominating palettes this spring, specifically, red, green, yellow, turquoise, fuchsia are the vogue.

Whether you are feeling vivacious, frivolous or just having fun, make sure you enjoy wearing the versatile fashion trends that are inspired by the season that brings about change and transformation.
