Harjeet Cheema was
born on 11 January 1979 in Sangrur(Punjab).Soon after the
family moved to a village called Dhenthal near Patiala where
he resided with his two brothers and parents.He developed a
taste for rich music by listening to legends like Nusrat
Fateh Ali Khan,Mohd.Rafi,Kishore,Asha Bhonsle and Wadali
brothers.Harjeet started performing at the young age of 12.
After completing his
schooling in Yadvindra Public School Patiala in 1998,Harjeet
decided to venture out of India to Australia to complete
further studies,where he began to explore his lifelong
passion for music and singing,continuing his classical vocal
training with his older brother, Charanjit
Cheema.Simultaneously he started learning Western music from
Marion Rowes.
Whilst in Australia he
won several singing competitions and began to create his own
unique style, which got noticed and Harjeet got selected to
represent Australia in Zee TV’s World Antakhshari. It was at
this point Harjeet saw the potential of creating his own
music and began to look at singing as a career.
Other achievements
whilst in Australia includes winning a Modeling Competition
resulting in him becoming Mr.Oz India in Year 2001, the same
year he was also named The Indian Youth of the Year.
He is passionate about
heath and fitness and is also known to his friends as a ‘gym
junkie’. The love for sports goes back to the schooling days
where he became the Best Athlete in School and also an All
India Inter Public School Champion in Javelin Throw.
Harjeet’s debut album
’Pyar Pyar’ released by Nupur Audio is an
amalgamation of moods and styles creating themes that appeal
to everday life.The Album’s music is given by Narinder Singh
and the video done by none other than Colosus.It was
recorded in Australia and the video was shot in Mumbai,India.
The album itself is fusion of Indian and Western sounds
which makes each song unique.
Harjeet’s artistic
ambition is to give to the listeners meaningful music and
bring back to the music Industry an era analogous to the one
in 70’s and 80’s and melodies with an essence of dedication
and creativity.
